COPYRIGHT GUIDELINES

I. WHAT BNA CLAIMS

1. It is an infringement of our copyright to regularly or systematically reproduce our copyright material without compensation or permission from BNA. Electronic transmission, scanning into a database or file, or otherwise storing a copyright work is prohibited. Photocopying or reprinting also is prohibited. BNA’s publications are protected by the U.S. Copyright Act.

2. We claim copyright protection in all material that has been written by or enhanced as a result of the efforts of BNA’s editorial staff or indexers.

3. While some of the information we publish in full text is public domain material, where the presentation of the material has been enhanced by BNA, we claim copyright protection in that presentation.

4. We do not claim copyright protection for simple text reproduction of public domain material.

II. WHAT WE ALLOW

1. Customers who pay the Copyright Clearance Center the appropriate per page and per copy fees may copy selected individual pages from a BNA print title, but not an entire title or sections of a title.

2. Customers who wish to use excerpts from BNA copyright material on a one-time basis for special uses, such as seminars, mailings to customers, or reprinting in another publication, may send a written request for permission to Paul Kavanakudy, Permissions Administrator, BNA Books, 1231 25th St., N.W. Washington, D.C. 20037, or fax (703)341-1610 , or e-mail: pkavanakudy@bna.com.

3. Each request should include the following: requestor name, requesting organization, complete address, and telephone number. Requests should clearly identify the book title, pages to be reproduced, and the reason for reproducing them (e.g. promotional mailing to clients, reprint in a newsletter, conference handout, classroom instruction, etc.) In addition, each request must indicate the number of copies needed, or if posting to a website, the URL address.

4. We do not give blanket permission to copy BNA material, although we recognize that the "fair use" doctrine permits, under limited circumstances, the copying of small portions of any copyright material for certain purposes.

5. BNA Books’ titles include working papers, sample forms, suggested policies, and model letters. These items are copyrighted, but a service subscription fee includes permission to reproduce them for internal use or to serve individual clients or customers. Permission to use them for other purposes must be obtained from the Permissions Administrator. Customers who want extra copies of BNA titles or web licenses may call BNA Books at (703)341-5763 for information on multiple subscriptions, or electronic delivery to multiple sites.
